Welcome to ‘The Pemberley’

Pemberley as a house name symbolises wealth and success. It is the perfect name for a homeowner wanting to govern their own piece of rural Britain

We have just completed this property and it is another fine example of a self build Georgian property in the heart of Sussex and our clients’ couldn’t be happier.

Georgian style homes have distinctive appearances and although they date back a few hundred years, they are an extremely popular choice with our clients when they are contemplating a new build design.

Georgian houses were built in a style that was popular in England between 1715-1830, during the reigns of the four King George, hence the term Georgian comes from the monarchs. Although it is commonly associated with the reigns of King George, in fact in reality it is directly tied to the work of English Architect Christopher Wren.

When we begin our design stage, we take into account our client’s wish list and the typical characteristics of a Georgian home, which are as follows;

  • Square symmetrical layout
  • Row of horizontal, evenly spaced sashed windows on each floor of the home
  • Early Georgian homes had sash windows. The principal of the double hung sash, with pulleys and counterweights in sash boxes still remain unchanged and traditionally the number of windows on the upper floor is 5
  • Usually 2-3 storeys with a chimney on each end of the house
  • Large panelled front door, usually topped off with a pediment or Arch. The doorway is often framed with a stone portico.
  • Tall ceiling and internal doors
  • More elaborate homes had a main staircase and a secondary back staircase for servants, but in more modern times their would be just one staircase of straight flights joined by landings, or winding flight for each storey

Georgian interiors are often the easiest to decorate, especially when you have a blank canvas.

The attractive, harmonious proportions speak for themselves and although grey has become popular in modern day history, don’t be afraid of strong and vibrant colours, as the Georgian proportions can take them.

As you can see from the stunning photo’s our latest build took into all of the above characteristics and as we sadly finish this project and hand over the keys , our next Georgian build is just around the corner.
